With the scoreline level going into first-half stoppage time, Diego Luna stepped up for Real Salt Lake and capitalized on a defensive error to give his side the lead against San Diego FC, The American intercepted a misplaced pass before dribbling and curling a precise strike into the top right corner of the net. The goal gave RSL a momentary 1-0 lead at Snapdragon Stadium, though San Diego's Hirving Lozano equalized from the penalty spot a few minutes later. The game eventually ended 3-1 in favor of Real Salt Lake with Luna adding a second from the penalty spot after half-time.
