Wesley played a crucial role in Flamengo’s 3-1 win over Premier League giants Chelsea in the Club World Cup on 20 June. The Brazilian side have confirmed their place in the round of 16 and will play their knockout game on Sunday, 29 June, with their opponents yet to be confirmed. Amid this, Wesley, who debuted for Brazil back in March against Colombia, is not currently thinking about a transfer, but will consider his options at the end of the tournament.

WHAT WESLEY SAID

He said in an interaction, “My dream is to play in Europe at least once in my career. Now I feel good in Brazil and I am focused on Flamengo and this splendid adventure that we are experiencing at the Club World Cup: we want to do well and move forward as much as possible. Brazilian teams are proving that they are up to par with European football."

He added: "[Flamengo team-mates] Jorginho, Danilo and Alex Sandro spoke to me a lot about Italy and told me that moving to Serie A would be a great experience for me and a very important step in my growth… I know about the interest of Roma and Juventus, but it’s not time to think ahead yet.”
